THE COMMERCIAL PERIL OF GERMANY
A NOTE OR ANXIETY. py I'clegruph—Press Association—Oopyrigtt • ' Amsterdam, May '21. Herr Stresmana (National Liberal mem. her in tho Reichstag)' urges"the'creation of a German Imperial .Ministry, of .Commerce. A calamity to Germany's 'economic life had been prevented solely by the quick successes of the armies in opening up vast districts producing raw materials and by German scionco providing substitutes for thorn. He added: "To-day, ginee tho difficulty has been overcome. '\\-c can safelv admit it. An Imperial ; Ministry of Commerce could .closely watch the enemies' post-war measures. 'Who would ever have believed that England would adopt compulsory service? She is proceeding with tho greatest recklessness, regardless of consequences. She knows no half measures, scruples, or sentimentalities, political r economical. Henceforth, everyone, even the German representatives abroad, should work as commercial agents: Goods, not money, should be sent abroad to improve tho . rate of German exchanges."
