SHOULD JOCKEYS BE EXEMPT.
ENLISTMENT APPEAL CASE ;N t ENGLAND. Tlia position of jockeys, in regard to military service was recently considered at the West Suffolk County Appeal Tribunal. A married jockey with two <bildr'on, who had been allowed exemption till May 3 by the local Tribunal, asserted that the Army doctor at Newmarket gave him a certificate of medical rejection, which the military authorities confiscated at Bury St. Edmunds, and be was there passed as fit for general scrvice. ~ , It was decided to allow a month s ternporary exemption, and the jockey 'h-±re- , upon applied for leave to appeal. It was pointed out, however, that this raised . a question of principle. If a jockey entered the Army and put on weight his occupation adu life's wont disappoari'd.-. The question was whether racing was of national advantage. They ought to nave some definite pronouncement. Leave to appeal was granted.
