A MYSTERIOU/3 STRANGER. , The murder of Mr.; and Mrs. J. F. Holland at their residence in Raven Street, Kaiapoi, on t'he evaoing of May 11, remains wrapped in r.iystcry. Diligent investigations are. The trail seems to be an at isolutely blind one. There is one thi/ng which has been reported to the poli .00 and which is engaging their attention, but which may not. have anything to do with the murder, as the dates do not fjuite fit in. The murder was committed, apparently, on the evening of May 11—certainly not earlier than the late afternoon of that day. On the evening of May 9, a stranger arrived at Brown's boardimghouse, Kaiapoi. He had tea in bed, but left before breakfast the next morning, ; find has not been scon by the boardinghouse people since. Ho spoke as little as powsible, and is said to have been strange f.-n his manner. When he arrived at tb.e boardinghouse lie was carrying a sm all parcel wrapped in brown paper imd tir id with: string. Later, an extra pair o'i trousers and a grey cap were seen hi mging in his room. These might have V:een the contents of the parcel he carric d. He is described as being between 27 i md 30 years of ase, sft. 7in. ov sft. Sin. s(ii height, clean shaven, and with very I'larlc hair, and to have been dressed in .a dark suit, with a t.liree-qnarter-lcnf/th fawn overcoat, and a black soft hat. T llie police are making inquiries in every pnssible direction for this man. .
