A hostile air raid by seaplanes was made on Friday night on the East Coast of Kent, but the damage was quite insignificant, while one eoli . dier was killed and two persons were injured. German aeroplanes dropped J. bombs on Dunkirk and ''Bergnes, and at both places there were several casualties. French and Belgian squadrons immediately retaliated, and successfully bombarded German cantonments iir Banders. On the West front the enemy made an attempt to get across the Yser Canal, but this - was promptly stopped. There were quite a number of. air fights, 'an which I the Germans appear to have suffered. A vivid account of the storming of j craters near Vimy by the Lancashires a few days ago provides a thrill. ! The Germans, are reported to.be con centiatihg troops on the British, front, and the Uhlans have been brought back from the Balkans. The Austrian V attack' on the; Italians in the Trentino has succeeded to the extent of < forcing our Allies to • evacuate their advanced positions. The-Russians 'j.Kave reached Sakiz, in- Persia, and ara advancing presumably towards the Turkish frontier. Irish affairs appear to be-in a delicate stage, and Mr.. ; Ascfuith has a very busy day befqte him in the House of Commons.
