IS THERE OVER-PRESSURE IN GIRLS' SCHOOLS?
HEADMISTRESSES' REPORT. . Regarding the question of over-pressure in -nrls' schools, the headmistresses who attended the Secondary Schools' Conference reported briefly as follows yesterday. —"The provisions fo? free university education now available for girls minimised the risks of over-pressure that no injury to the health of candidates for the university entrance examinations is likoly to occur, provided' that judicious care is exercised by - the headmistresses of "iris' secondary schools." . _ M'Lean (AVellington Girls College) stated that the committee was m full svmpntliy-with the desire to avoid overpressure, but wan alivo also to one of the pronounced dangers of modern education and the want'of rcal effort on tha part of pupils, due to this very fear of over-pressure. The judicious care of the headmistresses included securing tho co-operation of parents, which is so liecessary in these matters. .. . Mr G. W. if. Morell (president) said lie was pleased to have such a repoit fiom the lady delegates. . ' The report was unanimously adopted.
