I . ANNUAL REPORT. , The libraries annual report was presented to the City Council last evening. It stated that during the year nothing beyond the ordinary work has been done, but that showed a satisfactory result. Tho revenue from subscriptions, etc., for the year'exceeded that-of the previous year, the actunl amounts being £840 7s. 6d. for 1915-16, .£Bl9 ss. Gd. for. 1911-15. Increases were shown at the Central and Brooklyn, while there is a slight decrease at Newtown. The return of books issued for home-Teading also showed an increase in all departments except Newtown. The school, library system con. tinued to give satisfaction to teachers and children, due largely to Miss Sievwright, who had been in charge of the Department since its inception. It was to be'hoped that tlie extensions as proposed before the war would be proceeded with:as soon as convenient, the space available in tho mnin newspaper room being quite -inadeqnate for the demand made oh it Provision would have to be made during the coming year for the storage at" Newtown of the volumes of the local newspapers.
