Acceptances for all events on the opening day of the Wanganui meeting close on Monday nest at 9.30 p.m. The Porirua team for the Wanganui meeting will be railed North on Monday. Marsinah continues to run races when unexpected. At lliverlands .yesterday the Martian miire jumped out in front in the President's Handicap, and wag not headed again. Tho Wanganui. Jockey Club's winter meeting—which is the. opening of the jumping season—is now within measurable distance,, and interest is being talren in The Aucklanders—Master Regal and Tararu Jack—have arrived on the scene, and are to_ contest tho. Century Hurdles. The Wanganui representative yladian has plenty of admirers, and is considered to be a good stayer. Awahou will probably make his first appearance.over fences tjiis s.eason. in the . Century Hurdles. The brown gelding will strip very well, and- past experienco shows that he races better fresh. For the Steeplechase, Tnrero, Naupata, and New York are the .best liked. It is understood that Mr. Lan Duncan haa already received an offer for his Radium foal out of Desrina, but he will not entertain it, and the youngster will go up for 6ale in the ordinary course next season.- G. Price was probably at tM back of the oiler, as he is very partial to the family. Radium is one of the last of the Bond Or's, and wns often found opposing that great stayer The White Knight in Cups in by-gone years. ' At Wanganui on Tuesday morning Emperador was too good for the imported Greenstreet over six furlongs, run in lniin. 18sec. ' ■ ' • Mullingar has already arrived at Wanganui, and all going well the Auckland horse will fulfil his engagement in the Connolly Handicap, in which he will be ridden, by T.'Chaplin: Tho hurdle horse Marton is jumping the brush fences well at Wanganui, and he may be a" runner in the Grandstand Steeplechase on the second day of the Wanganui meeting. ,T. E, Thorpe, who gave a bfg purse for King's Courier after that horse had won .the two-year-old Trial' at the Hunt Club meeting at Ellerslio, has quitted the youngster to -Mr. W. Morgan, of Thames. King's Courier failed to win u race for Thorpe.

Troublesome (Spalpeen—LoadiceJ won the Merri Hurdles on the second day of tho Warrnambool meeting. The Auck-land-bred gelding is still trained by IV M'Cabe for T. Clegfe', but It'Cabe did not ride him on this occasion. ' The Waikato-owned Wainiai, who is a member of E. J. Rae's Ellerslie stables, is in niuch demand tor the, Great Northern Steeplechase. Another horse in favour is the hurdler Tc Orign, who is schooling well over the big fences. The Spalpeen gelding El Gallo continues to be tho most discussed hors,e for the Hurdles and Steeplechase. Mr. John Murray, late Chief Secretary of Victoria, who died under tragic circumstances when attending the Warrnambool meeting, will be much missed when Parliament comes to discuss the curtailment of racing. In the past the late Mr.. Murray was always a champion of racing, and he did much to checK the efforts of those who tried hard to reduce racing, on divers occasions. This week's issue of the "SPOUTING AND DRAMATIC REVIEW" is a particularly interesting one, comprising as it does some splendid war .views, dealing ivith a French' Munition Works, Anzacs and Canadians as Guests of the King and Queen at Buckingham Palace, the Dreadnought Pennsylvania, Welsh Flag Day, and Iriph Colleens in London, the Decoration of Alpine Snipers. Returned British Red Cross Nurses, the Visit of Australian. Political Leaders to a-Hospital in England, and Miscellaneous. Views depicting Life in the French .Trenches, the 13th Reinforcements ou tlie March, a 270-niiUi-metre Cannon, etc. A full page of excellent pictures taken at the Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's Meeting, and a fino frontispiece.showing the result of a day's duck/Shooting iff the North of Auckland, represents the.sporting section.
