An application, before the Brisbane Arbitration Court to register architects, engineers, and surveyors as an industrial union has caused consternation in tho profession here. It is considered derogatory for the profession to take . the status' of a trade union. Steps are to 1)8 taken to defeat the move. TRADES UNION CONGRESS. CONSCRIPTION OF WEALTH. . Hobart, May 18., The Trades Union Congress passed- a. motion urging tho Government to alter the Constitution to provid) absolute' preference to unionists. It called on the Government to confiscate all net rents, interests, and profits over £300 a year. COMMERCIAL MEN IN CONFERENCE, PREFERENTIAL TRADE QUESTIONS. Sydney, May 18. The Conference of Chambers of Commerce adopted a motion urging the abolition of price-fixing boards, thus preventing the possibility of exploitation. The conference approved of preferential tariffs within tho Empire, preferential' trade with the Allied nations, with .fair-and reasonable treatment of neutrals; surtaxed tariffs against the rations which' forced Britain into.the war; the adoption of permanent measures to prevent the dumping of every enemy and other goods within the Empire after the war. The resolutions are to be forwarded to the conference in Loadon iv June. BIG SAVING TO THE PEOPLE.'. ■STATE FOOD PRICES CONTROL. Sydney, May 18. The State Attorney-General (Hon. IV. R.
