37,000 TURKS CAPTURED 5 WITH BUGE STORES OF ■ \ MONITIONS ■ AUSTRIAN ATTACK . ■ X 1 ATTEMPT TO BREAK INTO , „ YENETIA " ITALIAN LINE SOLID " ACTIVITY IN THE WEST
The big battle between the Austrians and Italians in the Trentino, is we are told to-day, being waged over a 15-mile front. The enemy is trying to break' through to the Venetian Plain, but so far he has achieved nothing material beyond forcing back the Italian advanced posts. The Italian line ■ has been straightened and the concentrated fire of massed guns of every calibre has wrought terrible havoc in the Austrian ranks. There is great and exciting activity in the air over the Western front, and the airmen ; ha.ve had a . regular field day of it in duels and bomb-dropping .raids. Tho .Turkish organisation in Asia Minor has.been shattered by the Russians and even, their'reinforced centre has been unable to achieve anything to . their advantage. British destroyers and monitors have had a short sharp engagement with a German flotilla of destroyers off the Belgian coast, the . enemy retreating to the safety of his own harbours. There has been- a debate in the House of Commons on the Eoyal Flying Corps, Ministerial , statements, and an attempt by Mr. Pemberton Billing to explain himself to the House. The Air Service has been vindicated, and Mr. Pemberton Billing badly squashed. 4 late message , from New York reports the capture of 37,000 Turks and vast quantities of nsinitiohs by the Grand Duke Nicholas.
