PORT CHALMERS; Sflilefl.-Kini (1.30 a.m.), for Westport; Walmats (12.30 p.m.), for Wellington; Toromeo (3 p.m.), for Melbourne. WHANGAPE ARRIVES. The Whnngapo from Vancouver, via Suva, arrived in the stream shortly after 9 i o clock yesterday- morning. The vessel was' due on Monday last, but like most vessels that have been in the northern -waters during the past week she received a rather ssvoro buffeting and hence the late arrival. The vessel is berthed at the Kipg's Wharf. Departure was taken from Bay on April 13, and after a fair and uneventful voyage the freighter reached Suva on May 6. Tho vessel left the Island port tho same evening, and encountered a heavy sea and strong gales, which accompanied her to New Zealand. She came down the West Coast, and when approaching Cape Egmont ran into a stiff south-east gale, which lastr ' ed practically until arrival here. The Whangape has a largo cargo consisting mainly of paper. It is expected to, dispatch the vessel for Westport to-morrsw. ARAHUBA ARRIVES AT AUCKLAND. A Press Association message received last evening states that the Union Company's Arahura, which recently received such a, severe buffeting on the East Coast, -which resulted in the vessel springing a. leak, lias arrived at' Auckland. The message mentions that the vessel did not folie in any water during the voyage from .Gisborne, line weather being exDerienced throughout The Arahura will go into dock to-day. WHAKARAUA AT AUCKLAND. A telegraph message received from Auckland last, night 6tated that the 0. and D. liner Whakarua (now renamed, the Port Chalmers) arrivod at that port from New York, via Australian porta last night. The ship should show up at Wellington about May 26. THE BORDA DUE. From Sydney tho P. and 0. liner Borda is due in port any time now. Tho -vessel was to have left the New South Wales port last Wednesday. .On arrival here she will berth at the Glasgow Wharf to load frozen meat. HINEMOA GOES NORTH. Tho Government steamer Hinemoa left yesterday afternoon for her periodical visit to the northern lighthouses. It was expected tho vessel would havo got away the previous evening, but the weather was asainst a landing at Oastlepoint. Tho Hinemoa Is to transfer several lighthousekeepers, and will be away probably about three weeks. PALOONA DELAYED. / Owing to a delay at Dunedin it is now anticipated that the Paloona, will, not bo at this port until Saturday, instead of Friday, as would ordinarily have been tho case. Ail effort will be mcdo to get the vessel away for Melbourne on Saturday night. INDRALEMA LEAVES AUCKLAND. The 0. and D. liner Indralemia left Auckland early yesterday morning for Wellington. Sho should show up here to-morrow afternoon. THE YACHT CARNEGIE. '■ The surveying yacht Carnegie is now getting ready for sea, and should be Teady to sail towards the end of the week on a surveying cruise in the Pacific boforo returning to New York next year, states tho Christchurch "Sun." During her stay 'in port tho vessel has been "fitted with a new jibboom, all the rigging has been attended to and set up, and new lanyards rove off. Much new bronzework ha 3 also been provided aloft and on deck, there beinsr practically no iron uscdiin the, construction of the vessel. Sho holds the distinction of being the only vessel so constructed which has ever visited theso shores. Upon the vessel's arrival at New York she will bo laid up for throe or four months and thoroughly overhauled, preparatory to starting on another expedition in other parts of the. world.
