» A CHILD'S DEATH. Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., opened an inquest yesterday to ascertain the cause of the .death of Esme Brookes, who passed away on the voyage of the Moeraki from Sydney to Wellington last week. The little girl, who was five, years of age, was travelling in the care of her mother at tho timo of her death. She had bpen in good health up to the time of leaving Sydney, but suffered from seasickness on the voyage. After half-a-dozen witness had been, heard yesterday, the inquest was adjourned until the result of the postmortem examination could be placed before- the Coroner. A BROKEN LEG. Leslie Barnard, a resident of Tonks Grove, off Cuba Street, was admitted to the Wellington Public Hospital yesterday sufteiing from a broken leg. He received the injury through falling from a ladder at the meat works, at Ngahauranga.
