AN ALL-BRITISH DISPLAY. -. The Wellington. Provincial Industrial 'Association held ! its monthly, meeting last evening, Mr. F..J. Evans presiding, '.' Messrs/C: J. : Ward and Co;, bootmakers, were elected .members of the association, and Mr. C; J., Ward was elected a' member of the- executive.'•".
../Mr. C J.- Ward, in returning! thanks foi':.'the honour, said that the .time was' ripa td'push the'claims of New' Zealand manufacturers of boots-on the New Zealand public. By tne? installation of new machinery, the .industry had :oeenbrought ■up to date-:in every respect. These reforms had been responsible 'for Twinging about a system of, specialisation. . Specialisation, was. only in its infancy,- and as soon as this .was perfected the.difficulties •under which the industry had laboured ■in the. past would disappear. Mr. "yVard made the stateuviit that a little time ago 75 per cent, if tho best work' produced in Now Zealand was sold as the' imported article. This should not be allowed, be-' cause the. New Zealand article, in his opinion, was as good as any. Petberick,. secretary .'of tho British Commercial and Industrial Patriotic Exhibition, forwarded particulars of receipts and-payments in connection with the recent exhibition hold in Wellington. It was stated that the sum ..of was available for the Mayor's' Patriotic Fund." An amount of ,£lO 65. : 2 d.. was Reported'to be in,hand for the purchase of mementoes which it is intended to.:present to tie three joint' managers of- the exhibition. A communication was received from the Allfyr-Enipire League askiug 1 . for cooperation in'connoqtion with the' "AllBritish Display" v;'hich it is proposed to, hold in Wellington during the week ending June' 3. The. writer explained that the programme would include visits on the part of commercial men and members of the league to the city and suburban Schools on the afternoon of Juno 2; the object beinc; to give the-children instruction in "All-British "oocis." It was further stated'that on Empire Day the proposal is to hold a juvenile demonstration in the Town Hall for. the, same. purpose, during the afternoon. The programmewill be well diversified, and will he of a patriotic nature. At night it is proposed to hold a mass gathering in the Town Hall, when the principal speakers will be -the -Right Hon. W. F. Mnssey, Prime Minister, and Sir Joseph Ward.; His Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) will . preside. After considerable discussion, during which.it was pointed out that the association was an industrial body-and not a body of shopkeepers, it was resolved that the patronage of the association'be extended to the movement. Endeavours ■will also be made to -have displays of British goods in certair shops in the city. :''■■■
