SEPARATION ALLOWANCES
. A RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT. At the meeting of the Petone Borough Council last evening a letter from the Minister of Defence was read, in which it was stated regarding separation allowances to soldiers' wives a I'eeiproca] agreement had been entered into with the Commonwealth, and an endeavour waa tainc made to arrive at a similar understanding in respect to allowances to ibildren. ... *n' regard to the prices for goods' supplied in camp canteens, the- Minister pointed out that a special scale of charges had been drawn up, and if soldiers were nvercharged they could make complaint to the Camp Commandant. The Mayor 6tated with respect to the latter portion of the letter that the Gov/ ernment had. called upon the council to assist recruiting, and the council was de. termined to protect the interests of the men who joined the Eeinforcements.
