ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A SMASH ON LAMBTON QUAY. Just about noon on Saturday a rather exciting collision occurred opposite Barrett's Hotel,-on Lainbton CJuay. A motorcar was drawn up close to the kerbing on tho hotel side of the. thoroughfare, and to get' round it in order to pull up at the 7, Don" restaurant, the horse attached to a baker's cart, owned and driven by Mr. F. Meyers, of Cleveland Street, Brooklyn, veered across tlit tramway track and at the sanio time shied at the motor-car. At that monien a tramcar, travelling-at a good .rate ol speed,' dashed along the Quay (towards Wiliis Street), and ran into, the cap and horse with such force that the horse was bowled over, and Mr. Meyers «:as thrown from his seat, landing on -his head on the wood blocks. Dazed by the bump ho had received, the man; lay sprawled out on the blocks, but willing hands soon lifted him up and took him into the Exchange Buildings, where Mrs. Waters (a prominent St. John Ambulance worker) washed tho wound,, and discovered it to be only a scalp wound near the top of the head. By this time Mr Meyers was feeling nearly himsell n»ain, and after the wound had been d'res=ed at an adjacent chemists, was ablo to attend to his business. • Mr Meyers said that, seeing his horse was a little bit out of control, he held up his hand as a signal to the motorraan to stop, but apparently it was too late to prevent the collision. As a matter of fact, the ' tramcar (Motorman Rowlands) was pulled up as qnicklv as possible, as it came to a dead stop alongside the floundering horse. The horse only received a few minor cuts, and tho cart Was hardly damaged at all.
