GERMAN OFFENSIVE ON RUSSIAN NORTHERN FLANK
V UNSUCCESSFUL ATTACKS HEAVY ARTILLERY FIGHTING . By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright / " (Rec. May 11, 5.5 p.m.) Petrograd, May 13. A Russian official communique states:—"A German offensive is in progress ou the outskirts of the village of Topukn, in the Jacobstadt region. The enemy's artillery destroyed tie village. "The Germans have also taken the offensive' south-west o£ Lake Medraus, but they have been unsuccessful, • "We repelled the enemy's advance n?ar Novo-Alexinetz."-
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The High Commissioner reports:— London, May 13, 12.55 p.m. Petrograd official.—"After a strong artillery fire tho Germans attacked a sector of the Jacobstadt region, north of St. Selburg; south-west of Lake Medmus they also unsuccessfully assumed the offensive. "At many other sectors in tho Jacobstadt-Dvinsk region tho enemy opened a lively artillery fire. "Our artillery dispersed in many places the enemy's workmen who were engaged in fortifying the defences in the region of the Kolki village, near Oleksilie'ts. The eneui/s attempts to approach our trenches wero repulsed."
