The threshing returns to the. end of March showed an average yield per acre, in the area threshed to be 20.84 bushels. The . area threshed in Canterbury was 153,646 acres, aad the area. sofn 245,555 acres, leaving 192,000 acres unaccounted for. The threshing of wheat in Canterbury was almost completed at the end of March, so it is evident that a large allowance must be made for the area fed off and untlireshed. Consequently it -will. reduce the Government Statistician's estimate of tho tol'al yield.

The local wheat market is rather weaker. A number of fairly largo linos of Tuscan uore bought' during the week at 4s. at country stations. For Hunters 4s. 3d. is offered. Pearl is still very 6carce. There is no change in oats or oatsheaf chaff. The potato market is dull, only a l*n*>ed quantity offering. The price still remains at £4 to £4 ss. at country > stations. The Sydney market has • declined, buyers there who made forward purchases of New Zealand potatoes in February asking to have contracts cancelled. This will throw a considerable quantity purchased for shipment upon the local market;
