OFFICERS' KITS.
Sir,—ln The Dominion" of Hay sis a report of a meeting between the Advisory Board of Patriotic l''unds and the Minister of Defence re officers* tits. I admire the stand taken by JUr. Allen, but my admiration would have been greater had lie declined to discuss the matter, iir. Allen has slated what is required by an officer .going to the front, and the Department is prepared to supply it at a cost slightly neiow the" Government allowance. The Defence Department lias no doubt thoroughly investigated the matter, and a statement,' or rather repeated statements, from them should be sullicient for any society that calls itself "Patriotic.**' 'The matter reflects little credit 011 the officers who are behind the movement. A man who, holding a'commission, is not prepared either to forego or pay for the "fancy touches" out of Ins . own pocket will never play to advantage in that groat game in which self-denial is a" primary virtue.—l am, etc., THUS. PIUGLEY. Masterton, Slay S, 191G.'
