A telegram from Captain Irwin stated that his vessel would get away from Picton about 3 o'clock this morning. She should show up here before 8 o clock this morning. TAItAWEHA LATE, Unlike Wellington, the port of Lyttelton has been exceptionally busy the laet few days. As a natural consequence waterside labour is at a premium thew. This shortage of labour accounted fur the late departure of the Tarcuvera from that port— Khc left after midnight—and she did not arrive in Wellington until 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. In view of her late arrival the departure of the vessel for northern ports was put off until this afternoon. WESTItALIA DUE TO-DAY. From Sydney, via. the north, the Westralia -will arrive in port to-day. Heavy rain delayed the vessel's loading operations at Napier yesterday, and she was to overcarry some cargo. Departure for southern ports will be taken this evening, OIIEPUKI'S FIRST VISIT. . The lately purchased steamer Orepuki (formerly Tay I) arrived in port for the first time yesterday, and proceeded to Miramar to discharge her cargo of timber. The Ngakuta, which was to have departed. for Greymouth on Wednesday evening, was unable to leave owing to the shortage of a- couple of firemen. Tho vessel got away yesterday morning. The 'fifth engineer of the Manuka succeeds him, and the other engineers of the Manuka- will be promoted a step. Mr. Wilson has signed on tho Manuka- as seventh engineer.
