ST. JOHN'S CHURCH, JOHKSONVILLE The annual : meeting of. St. John's Church parishioners, Jolmsonvillc, was held 011 Wednesday, when there we're over 100 preswit. Sd. at tlio commencement of the year, having been during, the 12 months changed into a credit balance of .£ls 10s. 7(1. .This satisfactory result"is largely due .to the large 'increase in offertories, duo to increased attendances at the Sunday services. ■ , The vicar (Scv. F. 11. I'etrie), in. moving the adoption of the report and balanco sheet, expressed his thanks to all the vnrious officials who had cooperated so faithfully with hiiu during the year. He expressed his pleasure at the Bigns of spiritual growth and aotivity which .were at present evident in the congregation. Ho referred .to the Honours. Board that had been erected in the church, and said ho was proud.to be living in a district which had responded 'to the call of duty in the way /Johnsonville had done- I bc- l tweeh 7 and 8 per cent, of the total, popu- 1 lation having offered their services, to their country. The vicar also brought before the meeting the urgent need "that there was of a new church in JohnsonviLie. At the conclusion of the vicar's address the following resolution was unanimously and- enthusiastically carried:—"That in tho opinion of this meeting tho timo has come for making a start towards raising fiinds for .a, new.cluircli'.'"' A number of subscriptions were promised in the room. The .election of a committeo for. the current year resulted in the following being chosen Messrs. Anyon, ISethune, tiann, W. Cook, 0. Cook, Hustings, Hardie, 11.. Mills, Itiley, 'Walker, and Wallis. A social gfttherins was afterwards held, songs, recitations, and violin solos being contributed by: Misses Anj'on and Pritchard, Mrs. D. Steele, aiid Messrs. Juleff and Pritcliard, : and the vicar. Mrs. Cook presided at tho piano. After refreshmentshad been handed round bj; ■ tho ladies, an hour or two was spent in dancing.
