DOCTORS AND FRIENDLY SOCIETIES
NO SETTLEMENT- YET- - - Yesterday was the date named by the .Wellington doctors to the Associated Friendly Societies of Wellington to conclude an arrangement (or otherwise) providing medical attention for members on < the-basis of 21s. .per member per' annum. It will be remembered 1 that at the conference of both parties held under the presidency of the Hon. G. W. Russell, that the medical men held out for 245.,. whilst the societies' representatives offered 20s. (ss. more than has been, paid in the past). Subsequently the nieclical men offered to compromise on a basis of 215., and named yesterday as the-date for the acceptation or rejectioh 'of the offer. •Nothing was arranged definitely yester-, day, the societies'' representatives having requested: a postponement of. the date, until to-morrow in ■ order to get • their members together. This concession, it is understood, the medical fraternity have ' agreed to. . ■ - In tho meantime i the doctors have received a communication from the Minister suggesting an entirely different basis of settlement, which it is understood, does not meet with their approval.
