EGMONT MEETING .LEONTA SCOBJ3S IN BIG HANDICAP. By Telegraph.— Special Correspondent Hawera, llay 11. The weather was fine, but wiuuy, for the second day of the Egmont Wintor Meeting. There was « good attendance. The tolalisator handled j:lS,f)li3, being JCI'JIS in cxcefis of the corresponding day last year. The total lor the meeting was J:3U,357 Ids., an increase of <£3110 10s. over

Hie meeting last year. The heavy rain of the early morning left the track vory heavy, aud the opening event, the Ngamutu Handicap, took lmin. 21 l-ssec. All started, Antwerp being a goud favourite, with Golden Grafton and Coropet backed in that order. The last named, Silver Webb, Golden Grafton, and the favourite wero together down the back, but Coropet, on the inside, had the advantage entering -the straight, and though Golden GraKoii tried to wear liini down, the top-weight won by a couple of lengths. Antwerp was a poor third. Haupai was next. Tirana, Depredation, and Glenroy were backed in the order given for the Mokoia Handicap, in which the stable companions, Astor and Tyson, were well out the. whole way, and finished in front of the others. Glenroy seemed to be anchored by his weight, and Veto, who rtrow No, t posi. tion, began badly, and spoilt her chances. Tirana failed badly after being prominent over the first three furlongs. Depredation was running on at the finish, in fourth place. Patronale showed a glimpse of his old forin, and at the turn he appeared likely to catch tlio leaders,. bmt he did not finish, on. Los Angelos was making his first appearance fur two years, and was tailed off the whole' way.

Scratching reduced the field i.u the Hurdles to four runners. Patronymic was the best backed, and Golden Marsh also had plenty of followers, lint the other pair were neglected. Golden Marsh was unable to act in the going, and wis tailed off for over a mile, but ho caught and beat Draft for third place on the post. . Patronymic was always prominent, and taking charge at the six furlongs ho ran in. any easy winner. He lias been up no time, and if he keeps sound is sure to win more races for his owner.

The Opeke Handicap produced seven runners, Analogue being withdrawn. Ticino was a good favourite, but there was a lot of support for Jlaid o' Gowrie, Black Ada, and -Silenus. The latter, who had finished third in the amateur race on tho opening day, showed much improved form to-day, and won decisively, with a good run from the bottoni of the straight. Jlaid o' Gowrie and Henry Clay made the pace for six furlongs, with Black Ada and Ticino next. In the straight Silenus .appeared on the scene, .and won decisively from Henry Clay, w&o was unfancied on tho machine. Jlaid o' Gowrie was a length away, and the rank outsider Regio was fourth. The winner and runner-up arc by Signor. The Shorts Handicap went to the favourite, Royal Chef, > who had only hem raised 131b. for his first day's win. He began very smartly as usual, and with a furlong gone-he was showing the way 'to Ilushman and a bunched field. Round the bend Zion was in second place, with Bisogne at the, head.of the others. Royal Chef held his own in tho rim home, and won by a length. Coi'opet came from a long way back, and got third nlace, and Pergola was next. Coronet and Revocation both got bad passages in tho early part of tho race. •

Crawford and Leonta had the bulk of supporters in the Manaia Handicap. The first named ,ran very badly, and fin. Ished well back,, but Leonta wis a much improved horse to-day, and iron easily in the straight. After a good start Inciirn and Want led Crawford and Ratana round the top turn. At this six furlongs Leonta and Harbour Light moved up, anil round the bottom bend thoy wore in behind tho leading pair. Want gave way, and at the distance Leonta had charge from ' Ineuru, and won easily. Tneuru had to be ridden out to beat Harbour Light. Want arid Combustion' were the next to finish. Ratana was tailed off." , A number of tho runners were';heavily. bullioned in the Borough Handicap, seven furlongs, which was the concluding event. Sylviaroa was the absolute favourite, buV he ran a wretched race, and was whipping the field at the finish. AnothSr well-banked one to fail was Normnnby, who jumped off fast, and did not. improve his position. The Tinner'turned n» in Flying Camp, who took chargo after goiDg a furlong, and was not headed again. Captain Jfiro was well clear of the others, who were headed by St. Keil. . ■ ' THE RESULTS.
