In the House of .Representatives, the Federal Treasurer delivered the l'inancial Statement for the year ending June 30 next. The estimated receipts were 6ot down at ,£89,092,160; revenue, .£28,490,600; loans, expenditure, .£76,057,626; leaving a balance- of ■£13,034,531 to-be carried forward to meet war expenditure during the coming year. The Treasurer stated that, the naval Bnd military estimates amounted to .£44,562,039, as against .£17,537,255 last year, From June, 1914, to June, 1 1910, over seventy millions had been spent on defence. The defence expenditure is estimated at .£49,861,975. The Treasurer added that the Government was of opinion that the time had arrived ,w;hen Australia should at least pay her own-share of the war expenditure, and,. indeed, should lend money to tho Imperial Government. Parliament would be asked to authorise loans of fifty millions for the Commonwealth and nine millions for the States. He foreshadowed a 50 per cent, tax on war-timo profits accruing from June 30, 1915. A progress return reveals the fact that the aggregate net income of persons in tho Commonwealth to April ■ 3 was £183,000,000, and that it -is expected to reach .£200,000,000. The Government, Statistician estimates the total of private wealth at a thousand millions. CONTRIBUTION IN MEN. CONSCRIPTION ISSUE SHELVED. Melbourne, Hay 10. In :the Senate, Senator . ' At the Labour Conference, Mr. Hoiman, Premier of New ' South Wales, : 6tated that the Government felt that the Commonwealth, ponsion of 20s.'.a week for incapacitated soldiers was too small, and the State was supplementing it by a, similar amount. Referring'to wounded men who are unable to" follow their old avocations, whose; pension was less than they earned previously, the State would- supply the .difference. Speaking in'the Fedeial Houue, the Treasurer stated thai the Government had decided to increase the war pensions for incapacitated private soldiers from 20s. to 30s. Dor week, with corresponding increases for tho higher ranks. AUSTRALIAN PRISONERS IN TURKEY, FUNDS AND COMFORTS. Melbourne, May 10. Senator Pearce stated in the House of Representatives that he had received a cablegram from tho High Commissioner stating that the American Embassy in Turkey had been enabled to supply funds and comforts to tho prisoners in Turkey. i LENT BY THE ADMIRALTY. COMMANDER OF THE'-CRUISER ' BRISBANE. Sydney, May 10. Lieutenitnt-Cominander Owen Hare has arrived. He has been "lent" by tho British Admiralty for three years, 'and was appointed to the cruiser Brisbane. Ho participated in the landing at Suvla and 1 the evacuation of Anzac.
