The Eon. James J[, Eorron, of Suva, is in Auckland. Mr. Borron, who is a well-known planter in Fiji, has bscn spending an extended holiday in Australia and lias visited Wellington, Nelson, and Napier. One of the objects' of his joumoy to the Dominion was .to visit his son, who is a student at Nelson College. Licut.-Commander George H. Dennis* toun, E.N., who lias received the D.S.O* for services on the occasion of the destruction of the German gunboat Hermann von Wismann on Lake Nyanza, is the son of 'Mr. G. H. Dennistoun, of l'eel Forest, Canterbury. lie joined the Navy 17 years ago.
The death occurred early on Saturday; morning of Mr Frederick Lambert Prime, an esteemed Auckland resident of 01 years' standing, at ike age of 91 years/ Mr. Prime was predeceased by his wife, who also lived to the age of 91 years, ty just one month. Born in Cainbridegshiro, England, in 1525, the Tate Mr. Prim© landed in Auckland 25 years later, and entered into partnership in a grocery business with the lata >Mr. John Abbott. In 1871 Mr. Prime was elected a member of the 'Auckland City Council, and he served on that body altogether for sis years. He inis elected Mayor in 1874, and retained that office for a year, being tho third Mayor of Auckland. For some years he was a member of the Auckland Education Board. He was an enthusiastic volunteer, and was on active service during the Maori war. ;'.-;'
Mrs. H. J. Beswick has received/ a cablo message regarding the condition of her brother, Lieutenant J. F. Mills, of the King's Royal Rifles, regarding whom considerable anxiety had bein felt (says a Christchurch paper). Lieutenant Mills, who is a son of Sir James Mills, received his wounds at Salonika, suffering injnriej to legs, hack, and spine, which the War Office reported as "serious." He was removed to hospital at Malta, where ha has been undergoing treatment for a. considerable time. This has been so successful that he has now been sent'to England, and is reported to bo making good progress towards recovery. . .
Lieut, A. F. K, Eohloff, Canterburj Infantry, 3rd Reinforcements, after having seen some six months' active service on Gallipoli, has been promoted to the rank of captain, and lie has received orders to proceed from Egypt to the .New Zealand camp at Hornchuich, England.
The Coadjutor Roman Catholic Arch, bishop of Wellington, Dr. O'Shea, who, since February, has been visiting various centres of the Wellington archdiocese, arrived in Auckland on Saturday. He will remain there for about three weeks in residence at the Bishop's Palace, Ponsonby. One of the objects of his visit is the administration of confirmation in the absence of the Auckland bishop, Dr, Cleary. During his stay he will visit various Catholic institutions, and will return to Wellington via Gisborne.
Mr. Frank Talbot, who has just completed a tour of New Zealand with Mr. Frederic Coleman, war correspondent,, will leave for Australia to-day by the Manuka.
Mr. G. G. G. Watson, M.A., LL.B.. was lust night elected a life member of tho Victoria University College Students' Association, as a.mark'of appreciation of services rendered to that body. Mr. Wat-. 6on was president of the association last year, and has held various other offices during his period of membership.
