KARORI WATER AND DRAINAGE SCHEME.
Sir,—A certain number of individuals have taken tho unwarrantable liberty to include my namo by circular in a gross personal attack on whom they call "leading promoters" of this scheme. They suggest that 1, among others, am not m favour of delaying work for the present, but am "bent on I'oricng the thing through at top speed, war or no war." As far as 1 am concerned, this is absolutely untrue, and 1 challenge those responsible for tin's statement to prove that I. have ever advocated the carrying out of the work immediately, war or no war. All my utterances have boon in the opposite direction, and' I liavo always said and written that it is neither .necessary or desirable that the work should bo put in hand until money was obtainable at a reasonable rate,.arid the price of materials was at a reasonable figure. At the same time, it is necessary, in order that tho work may he proceeded with at all, that ratepavers should give the requisite authority at the poll; otherwise the wliolo machinery is destroyed, and instead of being one step further in tho right direction, we shall be one 6tep behind our former place.—l am, etc., WILFRID SKEGG.
