Ths St. John Nursing Guild. The monthly committee meeting of tb.6 District Nursin" Guild of St. John was held at ths residence- of Mrs. W. H. Scfton Moorhouse on Monday afternoon. There were present: Mesdamos Moorhouse- (presiding), Pearson, Balcotubfl Brown, Corrigan, Gibbons, Hadficld. Misses Robieson, Mack, and Edmeades (lion, secretary). Apology for absence was received from Mrs. \V.,B. Tripe. Nurse Walton reported that 9/ patients had been registered during April, 2 discharged, 1 sent to Hospital, 36 remaining on the register; 423 visits had) been paid. Gifts of clothing, etc., were- acknowledged from Mesdames Moorhouss, Evans, Craig, Fullarton, Fanning, Hall, Misses Russell, and Robieson, Messrs..Pitcher, Jenkins, Cooper, and the Gear Company; also £1 ls - eac 'h fr' ora rß ' 'TBums and Miss Robieson. At the close of tho meeting Mrs. Moorhouse, on behalf of the committee, presented Miss Mack with a silver cream jug, and expressed in a bright little speech their appreciation of her services and good wishes for her future happiness. Miss Mack suitably responded.
Wellington South Kindergarten, The first annual meetiug of tho Wellington South Committee of the Richmond Free Kindergarten Union, took place on ! Monday evening at St. Thomas's Schoolroom. The report showed that good work had been done, and that the number on tho roll is 58, .with an average attendance of 46. The sum of £7 was raised by a demonstration at the end' of the year, which also benefited tho attendance at 'the school con-, siderably. Th© committee has raised £41 15s. 7d., and £32 ss. Bd. was handed to the council, and small expenses were paid, leaving £5 16s. 2d. still in band. Many kind gifts have been received at the school, including a cup of cocoa for each child during the winter months. Miss Riley, tho headmistress of tho union's schools, gave a very interesting and helpful address on tho' training of children. Tho committee lor the ensuing year was elected, and was as follows:—Mr. Clark (chairman), Mr. Jenkins, Mrs. Roberts, Mr. King Mr. Luxford (treasurer), Mrs. Fraser, Mrs. Campbell, Mr. Oram, Mr. Biddlo, Mrs. Hassell, Mr. Bollard (secretary), Mrs. Douglas, Mr. Turner, Mrs, Clark, and Mrs. Luxford, sen.
Appreciation of the Kitchener Sock. That the soldiers' sock with tho Kitchener seamless toe is greatly appreciated bv the wearers is further evidenced by tho following. Writing from the base camp- at Horncclrarch. ono soldier says: "My souks are the envy of tho boys here; there are none like them, in our-, section of tho camp. ■Nearer,home,'a'; 1 lady, writes: My brother,, at present in camp, finds the 'socks; made by this,pattern a great comfort; and'lie-takes, pare not to let his kit mates see. them for fear they disappear and 'Ho bo: left, lamenting. Jackson, "Stouestead," aro visiting Wellington, and are staying at tho ildyal Oak. ___ Mrs. Halso (Greytown) and Mrs. St. George (Mastcrtb'n), aro visiting Mrs. H. 11. Wood, in Napier. ■ Mrs. S. Parkcs (Fcilduig) is visiting her mother, Mrs."Carley, in Masterton, ■Lady'Carroll'and Mrs. Harold Carr, of Gis'bornc, arrived in Wellington from Auckland yesterday afternoon.
Tlie.ro was a largo attendance at the weekly meeting of tho Ladies' Guild of tho N.Z. Natives Association yesterday afternoon. The reports of the different committees wero very satisfactory. A cheque for ten pounds was received with thanks from Mr. C. G. Wilson, of Mangaweka, through Mrs, I've, a member of tho guild. Final arrangements were '.made for a "social" and' dance, to be held in tho Natives Hall, Tory Street, this (Wednesday) evening, to which all soldiers are cordially invited, admittance free. Tho guild will be at the Soldiers' Club on Friday evening.
Mrs. Low (Dunedin) is visiting Wellington. Miss Cooper and Miss Moss wish to thank all who contributed bo generously to their flower stall in Bouth's Buildings last Fridav for the.Bed.Cross Day which -was held in Miss Teridall's tearooms.
