A coincidence about the Ellerslie racing was that iir. A. ii. Williams's horses, Ohortlo and Multiply, who won tiio two big handioaps, were followed home each ilny by Housewife and Colonel Soult.
Eleven sires were represented by winners nt tho Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting last week. The five succcssml colon ial-bred sires, who were represented by six. winners, were: Finland (Iteval and l''uulborn), Cannio Chiel (Good Hope), Sant Ilario (Crib), Elysian (Koesian), and Calibro (Silent Way).
The Southland-owned horse, Rorke's Drift, could have been sold at • a good ligure on Thipsday. His owner was approached with' an oft'er of J31200, which was subsequently increased to ,£ISOO, tho prospective buyer being prepared to give an oven larger,sum, but ne met with tho reply that the . Calibre gelding was not for. sale at any price.
The aged Terrapin golding, Gold, Pin, who was being got ready for steeplechases, brolio 1 down telly while contesting the Hurdles at Eicoarton on Thurs: day. The old fellow has gone back to tho paddock.
Tho Riccarton trainer, 11. Ho'obs, expects to get away for Australia oil May 18. According to present arrangements, his team will comprise Corrie, Peg, Deltonio, and Down.
The winners of both big handicaps at Riccarton—Reval and • Marc Antony—are engaged at the Ashburton meeting this week.

The locally-owned Seadown, a dual winner at Riccarton, was brought back to Trentham on Saturday. The big fellow was in great heart after his racing, and though his owner intended' spelling for tho, winter, he may now decide to givo liim a raco at Otaki.
It is likely that Suhuy Climes will be the only Highden representative racing at Hastings this week. Ceasefire and Ny6tad are to bo wintered, aud the latter will race as a gelding in tho spring. There is no necessity for the latter course,' except that Trainer G. Price thinks Nystad was a better 1 racer for being gelded, and he intends to follow tho samo course with the present son of Finland.
