OPENING DAY AT HERETAUNGA.
. The Wellington Golf Club opened their season at tho Heretaunga links on Saturday with a' mixed foursomes bogey match, all the entrance fees for which are to go to the Red Cross Fund. Twenty-sis pairs entered.
In the course of his speech declaring the links open for play, the president of tho club (Sir Joseph Ward) made reference to the heroic exploits of a member of the club, Lieut. Brandon, who achieved distinction by pursuing and attacking a Zeppelin raider .with some success.
Following wore the best cards hand-" ed in:—Miss M. Tweed and D. Stewart (nil square), Mrs. Stewart and V. G. Bhind (all square), Miss Wheeler and G.-T. George (all square), Miss Gaynor and It. G. Kirk (1 down), Mrs. Biss and E. J. Reid (1 down), Miss Mantell and K. Stewart (2. down). Miss Webb and E. Holmwood (3 down). The. ties will bo played off on some future date yet to bo arranged. Sir Joseph AVard lias presented tbe club with a handsome silver cup to bo competed for as tho committpe of the club may decide.
