DESTROYED ■; — : THE PIRATE WAR: " SCALPS " FOR THE ; BRITISH SINN FEIN OUTBREAK ■ 'GRAPHIC ACCOUNTS OF THE : TRENCHES, SNIPERS, AND V ■ MACHINE-GUNS After a prolonged and galbgi defence, the beleaguered British garrison at Kub-el-Amara has come to th» end of its food supply; a relief ship failed to negotiate the difficult waters of the Tigris, and faced with starvation, General' Townshend has surrendered with a force of about 9000 men, after destroying his guns and munitions. On the Western'front, bombardments and local actions, with greatly increased in the air, are the principal features of the fighting. The Germans claim a substantial score on the Russian front, assertingthe capture of a positioh. held by the Russians, with some 5000 prisoners. There is no news of aiiy moment frolii any other of the great theatres, except on the Russian froit,. where thfe Germans clailn a success. On the sea., the pirate submarine hunt seems to be growing in zeal, and to the general advantage of the British, although the pirates still manage to find victims amongst the neutral shipping. A British battleship, H.M.S. Russell, has been mined and ffutik in the Mediterranean. Full : accounts of the sensational revolt of the Sinn Feiners at Dublin disclose a more serious picture, than has yet been allowed to filter past the Censor.
