A TRIP TO MOUNT HECTOR
(From Our Special Correspondent,) | Creytown, April 28. What amounts to a record trip was made during the Easter holidays, when a party, consisting of Misses Zillah, and Ruby Humphries, their father and brother (Messrs. H. and L. Humphries), and Messrs. Alex. Orr and G. Uarrity, left Greytown and reached the peak of Mt. Heotor. This is the first season it has been possible for women to ascend from the eastern side, and the jaunt was made in easy time, as follows:—Tho party left Greytown on Good Friday, and reached Tauheremkau Valley, after crossing lit. Reeves, the some afternoon, and on Saturday all the party travelled to Mt.' Alpha, where they stopped in the whare. It rained all day Sunday, and there was no going outside the building. On the Monday it was very misty in the morning, but cleared up later, and tho party made a start for Mt. Hector, not starting till about 2 p.m., but by hard walking the apex was reached. . However, the fog had not cleared sufficiently to get a good.view. Kapiti was seen, and also the Kaikduras, but the latter rather dimly. 'The stay was only of a few minutes' duration, when a stnrt was made back to Alpha, which was readied at dusk. On Tuesday a start was made for Groytown, and the party got as far as tho Taiilierenikau, .and camped there, journoying on .the next morning,- auu reaching Greytown at about 4 p.m. on AVednesday. At Alpha the party found Messrs. A'assler and Beavan, who intended to cross to Otaki, but owing to the weather they returned to'Greytown also. The ladies walked the whole distance. '
