BADCES.

Sir, —I was quite under the impression chat married men and single men with dependants were entitled to badges. I should be greatly obliged if you would raako the matter of the terms on which 'a married man or a single man with dependants can, or cannot, obtain a badge quite clear. An improvement in the badge system would be if they could all be of the same colour, 6ay khaki, with some slight difference, which the wearer himself would be aware of, Tnit which would not bo patent to the observer, so that all the general public would know would be simply that he was not a soldier for some good reason. I feel that it is indeed hard for those of our men who would like to go, but are unable to leave those depending on them, and thoroughly agree with Mrs. A. May L. Hadfield that they show even greater courage 'by remaining. It seems a great pity that there are no badges for such. I quite, realise it' is impossible for all to go. But I still am of opinion that it is a pity that those of our returned men, and civilians who are entitled to badges, do not wear them, and consider they are, by not doing so, to some extent" screening the shirker.— I am, etc., ELIZABETH R. HADFIELD. Lindale, Paraparaumu. [On inquiry at pefenoe Headquarters it was ascertained that only three badges were authorised to be issued— one for returned men, one for those waiting;to be called up, and one for those who have been, rejected'as medically unfit. No other badges of any kind are issued. If married men and single men with dependants desire to obtain badges they must register as recruits in the ordinary way'.]
