CHURCH MEETINGS

ST. THOMAS'S. • ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of" tho parishioners of St. Thomas's Church was held last evening, the vicar, the Rev. W. Fancourt, presiding. The vicar, in his address, mentioned the progress that had been made in tho district. He also drotv attention to the hue response the voimg men of the parish had made '. to the call of Empire, and he believed and iwped that tho people generally had awakened to the seriousness of the war.

The annual report was adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Vicar's churchwarden, Dr. Kemp; people's churchwarden, Mr. J. W. Salmond; Vestry,-Messrs. Arnold, Ballinger, Christie, Edwards, Grenside, Harmer, Jeffs, Langridge, Rowntrec, Hash; auditors, Messrs. M'Caul and Watson. \

NORTHLAND ANNUAL MEETINC,

; There was a good gathering of parish, loners in St. Anne's Schoolroom on Wednesday .night for the annual meeting- The reports and balauce-slieets showed that there had been a marked improvement in the finances of the parish during tho year, the collections totalling £31 more than in the previous year. The debt upon tho church had been reduced by £275, and the new schoolroom built and paid for.- Much praise was given to the voluntary builders and to the Ladies' Guild, -which had supplied them consistently with tho wherewithal. The communicants- had increased in number during the year, the average attendance being just over twenty at each celebration. The 3d. a week scheme had been very successful, and had brought-in £59. Tho vicar asked that £100 bo raised , for the church, debt this coming and £50 tor the si to of tho schoolroom. The election of officers followed the reading of the reports. There was then an adjournment to the supper room, where refreshments were provided by the ladies -of the parish. A musical programme and a fev dances brought the meeting to a close.
