The Hon. J. A. Hanan, who is to-daj at Rotorua, is expected hack in Wef lington on Sunday morning.
The Rev*. T. Halliday, of Lansdowne, has declined a call to the Presbyterian Church, Whakatane.
According to the latest advices, Mr. A. H. Miles, of "Wellington, managing director of Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., was making satisfatoory progress towards recovery after undergoing _ a. serious operation in a private hospital in Sydney. He expects to be able to leave the hospital about the end of next week.
Mr. Eaynor White,, organist and choirmaster of St. John's Church,_ sonby, has been appointed to a similai. position at St. Paul's, Christchurch.
Major 0. E. Maguire, N.Z.M.C, who has been with the New Zealand troops in Egypt for some months past, is at present in Auckland.
Mr. A. G. Stanley, of the Chrisix church Post Office Savings Bank_ De-: partment, has been given a commission! in the Reinforcements, and will shortly go to Trentham. He was in the Civil Service, Rifles for some vears, and hag had command of the Post and Tele< graph Senior Cadets since their incep' tion.
Charles Robert Duke, son of Mr. W.H. Duke, London Street, Dunedin, who wont to the front with the main body from Sydney (4th Battalion) * has been given a commission in the sth Pioneen Battalion.
A Balaclava hero, in the person of, Joseph Bradbury Parr, aged 90, wa( admitted to the Wilcannia (New Soutij Wales) Hospital- last week. He was a sergeant-major in the 11th Hussars in the Balaclava charge. He is one of the very few survivors. _ He has been, a resident of Australia since 1860.
Mr. B. C. Branson, who is well knowi( in Dunedin, is en route to England* where he intends to offer himself foi active service. Mr. Branson, who had been several times rejected here as-b&i ing unfit, sold out his interest in tha hotel business in order to get away. Mr. J- Cruickshank, of Manakau, has joined- the loth Reinforcements, anal goes into camp on Tuesday next. The annual installation of Master of St. Mark's Masonic Lodge was held onl Tuesday evening, at Carterton, when Bro. Robert Stout, S.W., was placed iu the chair for the ensuing term, and invested his officers. The installing Master was R.W. Bro. Peterkin. Prov. G.M., M.V. Bros. H. J. Williams, P.G.M./and J. Moncrieff, P.D.G.M., being also present. W. Bro. A. Phillpotfcs. was director of ceremonies.' The Verv Rev. Father Price, Chain cellor of the Diocese of Christohurch, left Wellington by the Moeraki yesterj day, on an extended health tour. H<{ will visit Australia, China, America,,: and England, and will return to Christ church about Christmas.
