. ANNUAL CONFERENCE. The fifteenth annual conference of tho Federated Catholic Clubs of New Zealand was opened at St. Patrick's Hall on Easter Saturday. Tho following were the representatives present. Auckland, Messrs. It. Duigan and C. Lynch; I'arnell, Mr. M. O'Kane; Karangaliake, Mr. M. Ivrebs; Hamilton, Mr. F. Galoni; Wellington, Messrs. P. Gallagher and B. Leydon; Wellington Sotitn, Mr. J. Wickliir'e; Christchurch, Messrs. \Y. J. Dobhs and P. J. Nelson; Timaru, Mr. T. Quirnv; Ashburton, Mr. B. A. Guise; Greymouth, Mr. T. H. Forster; Wespart, Mr. J. Fagan; and the Federal Executive; Messrs G. Dee, M. O'Kane, F. Galvin, J. Fagan, E. H. L. Reade, and T. H. Forster. Apologies wero.received for the absence ol His Grace Archbishop Redwood (President-Gen-' eral), His Grace Archbishop O'Shea, and Mr. J, L. Leydon (president). Mr. J. Dee (vice-president) was in the chair.
An address of Welcome to the visiting .delegates was given by the Very Rev. 'Father.J. O'Oonnell, who said he was pleased to see tbo visitors, and exhorted all the delegates to foster (Jatjiclic Club life jn New Zealand. He then dwelt briefly on tho aims arid objects of Roman Catholic clubs, which were endeavouring to benefit them intellectually and socially. He hoped tho deliberations of the delegates would prove beneficial, and in conclusion wished them all a pleasant stay in the City. Mr. Dec, the chairman, made, a suitable reply.
The .annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The report showed a satisfactory position, notwithstanding the difficulties created by'"thc war, more especially the withdrawal of numbers of officers and men owing to enlistment.
Mr. O'Kaiie (business manage' - of Mio "Catholic Magazine") .submitted a report on the work of tho paper since its republication in August last. He gave an outline of the work done in connection with publication, distribution, organisation, and advertising. Tho reports from outside clubs were received, and were considered satisfactory.
Mr. T. H. Forster reported on the workhig of all the branches of the federation. He urged all clubs to remodel their constitution, and introduce new blaod into their executives, and offered various suggestions to tho delegates to take, back with them.
The election of officers resulted as fol-lows:—President-General, His Grace Archbishop Redwood; president. Mr. E. B. L. Reade; vice-president, Mr. J. Fagan; lion, secretary, Mr. T. H. Forster; hon. treasurer. Mr. 51. Krobs; executive officers, Messrs! G. Dee,, J. L. Leydon, and Tiov. Bro. Egbert. ' It was demdwi to hold the next annual conference, at Christchurch.
