Allport, Secretary for Marine, Wellington, ttat the master ol the Opouri reports that at 10.30 o'clock m Monday moraine his vessel struck a submerged object -when about four miles north of Waipaya Point, causing some damage to the ship. Waipapa, Paint is between Kaikoura and the Clarence River. . KAITANGATA REPORTED. . A telegraphic message received last evening stated . that tho Kaitangata passed 1 arewoll Spit going east at 3.D o'clock yesterday afternoon. The Kaitangata. left Newcastle on Tuesday last laden -with coal for Wellington. She should in the ordinary course of events have reached this port on Monday evening. Tho Kaitangata should ba in at daylight this morning. JIESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Mr. T. Jones; second mate of the Nikau, who was badly burned by an explosion on that vessel some weiks ago. and who has been confined to the Nelson Hospital, has rejoined his ship. Mr. R. Woolf, actingsecond, has gone ashore for orders. Mr. fr. Maxwell, who was also badly injured at tho same time, is progressing favourably towards recovery, but will not' be able to resume his duties for some time. Mr. A. Taylor, radio, operator of tho Maori, has left that vessel in ordor to join the R.JI.S. Moana in a similar capacity. Mr. G. Wfltt, who recently received his discharge after serving with" the Expeditionary Force, has joined the Pohcrua, as second cngincor. Mr. R. Erwin, an officer of the Koromllto, has enlisted for active service.' Mr. A. Fraser, second officer of the Te Anau, has resigned from the Union- Company's service, and is proceeding Home to offer his services to the Admiralty. Mr. A. Pyper, chief officer of the Te Anau. has gone to Auckland for orders. He has been relieved by Mr.' J. Mahbbd, chief officer of the Corinna. The Kokiri will, it is expected, be patched for Greymouth to-morrow evening. 1 It is now expected that the liner Dongarra will arrive here from Auckland on May 2. _ Tho Westport Coal Company's Canopua is expected at this port from the 60uth on Saturday. She will leave again on Monday. , From Greymouth tho Blackball Coal Company's collier Ngakuta wae to arrive here early, this morning. It is expected to dispatch her for the south again probably on Friday night. On arrival at Nelson next Sunday tho Nikau will lay up for overhaul.
