PLUMBING AND HEALTH
ADMINISTRATION OF THE LAW.
Some master plumbers' waited recently on tho Hon. G. W.'Russell, Minister of Public Health, and brought under his notice certain existing disabilities in connection with the registration of men who were in every way qualified by experience to bo placed upon the register, but who had failed from various causes to register within the time laid down by tho Act. They requested that what was necessary should be done to meet such cases. Yesterday a deputation from the New Zealand Plumbers' Federation, of Workers' Industrial Association waited upon the Minister and expressed their entire satisfaction with the 'Act and its present administration. They opposed any amendments being made in the law The Hon. G. AV. Russell, in reply, pointed out the increasing, needs in respect to plumbing work in many growing towns, and the difficulty' now experienced in getting skilled plumbing labour in such places. As Minister of Public Health he had to insist-piind ho intended to force as far as he'could— every public body to carry out the law relating to drainage and water supply. Then, there arose the question of the available number of plumbers to carry out such. work. In any alteration that might he made in the law he would do nothing to lower the standard of the Dlumbuij; trado.
