WHY NOT A GENERAL ELECTION
SUGGESTION BY MR, FREDERICK HARRISON. ' London, 'April 25. Sir. Frederick Harrison, writing in "The Times,", says that there is no reason why there should not be a general election. He suggests a short Actio simplify the electoral machinery, bo as to enable all elections to be hold Dn the one day, and all electioneering to be over within a.week: failing this, he recommends a referencrain on the Question whether there should bo a change of Government.

The London "Times," iji a leader, says:—"No plain man outside political circles cares two straws about these embittered Cabinet controversies. What the public wants is to win tho war as thoroughly and as quickly as possible, and they are quite indifferent as to what Government is in power when we do win it, Tho only national disaster they rpcogniso' is a national'defeat for the British." FINANCIAL RELIEF FOR ENLISTED MEN • (Rec. April 26, 9 p.m.) ■•■ London, April 25. It is announced that a special committee lias been appointed to draw up a_ scheme to enable men to meet their civil liabilities. It is proposed to assist both married! and single men in regard to rent, mortgage interest, payment of instalments .under contract, taxes, rates, insurance premiums, and school fees. The total relief is not to exceed £101 per annum.
