Arrangements have just been completed for tho erection at Whakatane (Bay. of Plenty) ol' a very large works and plant for the East Coast Co-opera-tive Meat Company, Ltd. Some indication of the liature of the undertaking may be gained from the fact that the plant to be installed will be capable of dealing with 210,0001b. of meat in 24 hours. ; The importance which the Imperial authorities attach to such undertakings is evidenced by the fact that, next' to munitions, work for colonial freezing : companies .is placed first oji tho list compiled under the direction of. the Minister of Munitions. ■ When Messrs. John Chambers and Son, of Auckland, received the order for £350,000 worth of refrigerating plant from the wellknown Haslam foundry at Derby, the requisition was at once considered, by ' the British* Government; It was decided tha,t ,the plant should be supplied' ■as rejuested subject'orily to such delays as might prove necessary in the manufacture of munitions.
