MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Saturday's sitting of the Magistrate's Court was presided over by Mr. W. G. Biddell, S.M.

Wilfred Gregor Gibson MacKinnon, alias William Gibson, ivas remanded to appear at Timaru on a chargo of Laving forged tho name of Robert Marshall to a- chequo for £1 10s. at Invercargill. The accused was also charged with having committed bigamy at Otaki. ■Elizabeth Russell was charged with having used a military pay warrant for £10 175., made out m the name of Sergt. I<\ H. Russell, knowing it to be forged. She was alleged to have dealt with it in such a manner as to cause James Scott Council to act -upon it as if it were genuine. A roinand was granted till April 26. How Leo, alias George How, appeared on a charge of having kept a brothel at Kilbinne, and Annie Geary, Anne Courtenay, and Martha Courtonaj wore charged with having assisted in the management of the same. Each of the accused pleaded not guilty, and oil the application of Inspector Hendrey a remand was granted till Wednesday next. Bail in tho case of tho wojnen was fixed at £25 each. Lee did not ask for hail.

For having committed an indecenl act in Manners Street, Henry M'Cormick, aged 24, was sentenced to 21 days' imprisonment. George M'Konzie, Daniel M'Randle, Charles Pidgeon, and Frederick'Sermei: were each fined 10s. for drunkenness, with the usual alternative.

A charge of using obscene language was preferred against a young man named Mark Carter. He asked for lenient treatment. His Worship fined him £5, with the alternative of one month's hard labour.
