ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES
FALL FROM A TRAIN.
At about, 9.30 on Saturday evening, as the special race train from Masterton to. the city was within a quarter of a mile of Petone station, a porter named H. J. Chapman, aged 29 years, whilst engaged checking tickets, fell from one i of the carriages, the wheels of which passed over his left foot. Dr. Harding attended, and the man who was taken to the Hospital at 11 pra on Saturday. It was found that his left foot was badly lacerated and' it was amputated at the ankle 3'esterday. BODY FOUND. Superintendent O'Donovan, in charge of the Wellington Police District, has received a telegram from Constable Dick, of Martinborough, stating that 2? e .body of a Native, named Simon Hadneld, 46 years of age, was found on the Wharigaimona Beach on Saturday afternoon. It is supposed that' the deceased, was drowned when returning homo from across the Wairarapa Lake. An inquest will be held. KILLED ON THE RAILWAY. By. Telegraph—Press Association. •»: Feilding, April 22. A middle-aged man' named Jack Stapleton was killed on the railway lino last night. His body was foancf tins morning. It is not known whether ho was on the train, or was struck by tlio engine. BOY FATALLY CRUSHED. Dunedin, April 22. Allan Waugh, 14, a son of Mr. James Waugh, farmer, of Wangaloa, was killed yesterday, liis head being crushed be, tween the shaft of a dray and a stable A FATAL EXPLOSION. Hawera, April 22. P. J. Kennedy, foreman for thePuueliaka Road Board, had both hands blown off yosterday as the result of a premature explosion of dynamite.
