Sydney, April 22. Letters from a resident or Sydney who was aboard the steamer CJan Mactavish give interesting details of the fight with the Moewe and the subsequent movements of the raider. When the Moewe ordered the Clan Maotavish to stop, the captain replied: "We aro stopped," and simultaneously ordered the engine-room to open out to the full extent. The Germans, discovering the ruse, opened fire. , Three shells struck the Clan Mactavish, and the fourth passed through the engine-room, completely disabling her. The oaptain gave the order to cease firing, but the gunMers were not aware that- the Clan Mactavish had surrendered, and fired a fifth 6hot, which /struck the boatdeck and killed fifteen coolies.
They found 250 other prisoners from various captured fillips aboard tha Moewe, which ran across to the American coast and captured the sailer Edinburgh. The Moewe coaled from the captured steamer Cowbridge, which was then sunk, with three thousand tons of coal on board. Afterwards the Moewe captured the steamers Luxemburg, Flamenco, Westburn, * arid Horace. Most of the crews of the captured vc&sels were' transferred to the Whitburn, which proceeded to Teneriffe. and landed the prisoners.
