Major J. T. Ho is over seventy years of age, and has been a resident of the Islands for many years, having been a very successful "planter, and acted at times &s Resident "Agent for the New Zealand Government and the Union Steam Ship Company.

Among the passengers to arrive fronj San Francisco by the Moana on Friday was the Jiev. M. Molyneaux, ex-naval chaplain and international footballer, who captained the English 'team' which toured New Zealand in 1888. ■The death oocurred at the Wellington Hospital on Thursday night, at the age of 68, of Mr. Francis Loudon, a ireTU known Jgui'e in the City. The late Mr. Loudon was born in Londonderry, Ireland, and canio our, to New Zealand 50 years ago. He landed first of all at Petone, and subsequently went to Foxton, where he opened a store. He took part in' the Maori War, and later ha returned to the shores of Port Nicholson', commencing business in Wellington as a land and estate agent. He re-, tired a few years ago, but he continued to be very active until about ten days prior to his death. He was an Orangeman, and a member of the Y.M.C. A. lie funeral took place on nSaturday, .tic service at St. Peter's Church being conducted by the Bow H. Watson. The deceased gentleman is survived by a widow, one son (Mr, Whittaker', Lou-', don, surveyor, Straits Settlements), and one daughter (Mrs. Dr. Peers, London). His brother, Mr. William. Loudon, merchant, of Sydney, died at Rotorua six weeks ago.

Sergt. F. H. Cooper, of the 17tft Reinforcements, and who was formerly, secretary of the New Zealand Poultry Association, was presented with a wallet and fountain pen at the association's annual dinner on Saturday evenings Mrs. Cooper was also presented with $ handsome handbag.
