The whole of the members of the. board, with representatives of the Education Board, are invited'to be present. 1 A letter was read from Mr. W. R. ■ Wilberfoss, secretary of the New Zea- 1 land Warehousemen's Association,-. ! which ran as follows:— ? 1 "At a meeting of ray association, held j on April 17, the chairman reported that lie had been waited on by' the 1 chairman of tho Hospital and Charit- ' able Aid Board, and requested to eon- ' aider the matter of supplying the board ! witli_ goods.' The matter, was carefully : considered by my association, and it 1 decided that it could not accede to your request. Tn addition to being contrary to the rules of 'the association, it . would be creating a precedent which ■ would ho used against.it by all Hospital : Boards in the; Dominion." ' The chairman explained that the Hos- 1 ))ital was able to purchase all its needs 1 at wholesale rates from various firms, 1 except soft goods', and this association ■ had made it impossible for tiiem to got 1 quotations, and as tho result the sum 1 £2000 odd had been lost to the in- 1 stitution. He had consulted with the j principals of'two-of the big firms, and the above letter was tho result. The 1 position was • that, whilst all_ other wholesale firms did business with the ' board, the soft goods . warehousemen i stood aside, so they had to buy in the i open market. i . Mr. C. M. Luke said that he believed • in tho contract system as far as it was i possible, and in the meantime ,he ) thought they should refer tho letter to < the Hospital' Committee. That was ' agreed to. _ i The following recommendations of the i Husnital Committee were agreed to:— : "That the resignations of Senior' i Nurses Christie and Gilliver have been accepted with regret." "That in regard to the milk feeding «f children arrangements be made f<jr keepihg a cow for special sivpplv of milk to ; the Children's Hospital. There (s ample ground at the Fever Hospital lor grazing a cow." "That the, reports for the month of the bacteriologist' and tho dental surgeon be adopted." • -"That the accounts for tho month, amounting to £4477 Is., he passed for payment." "That a rota be prepared for members (fourl for the 'purpose of visiting fortnightly the various institutions of tho board, 'particularly .the Hospital and its institutions,'' and that this Committee furnish its' report to the committee concerned with tho management of such institution." "That authority be given the house steward to purchaso four chests of drawers and one dozen chairs for tho men's rooms (estimate cost £12 125.)."
