VICTORIA COLLEGE
MEETING OF THE COUNCIL,
A meeting of tiie Victoria Collego Council was held last night. There were present Mr. Clement Watson (chairman), the Hon. A. T. Maginnity, Professors Adanisou and Ranltino Brown, Dr. Hector, tlio Rev. \V. A. Evans, Messrs. A. R, Atkinson, W.S. 'fa Trobe and 'P. R. Fleming. On the recommendation of Professor Easterfield, the salary of the Chemistry Demonstrator (Mr. Bruce) was increased from £100 to £150 per year. One of tlio Jacob Joseph Scholarships was awarded to Mr. J. it. Cuddie. The council decided to defer consideration of Mr. L. J. Pilkington's application until next year. Mr. I'ilkington holds an appointment undor the Imperial Government at Samoa, in tlio office of the Receiver for the D.H. and P.G.. and it was at his request that his scholarship was postponed. The application of Mr. Temiant for .an assistant lecturer iii education was referred to the Professorial Board. In a letter Mr, Tennant suggested that at first the position might bo honorary, and that it might be lic-.d by Miss Hoatheringtoiv. He urged that in view of the growth of the education classes an assistant lecturer was necossavy. It was decided to hold college examinations for "terms" at Samoa this year, provided suitable arrangements could bo made.
Accounts for the month amounting to £1080 15s. sd.' were passed for pa pment.
