MASTERTON NOTES
Owing to New Zealand 6teamers being diverted from the Argentine route, tile shipment of a number of Wairarapa istud and flock rams to that country has been delayed. The statement of accounts of the Ma-sterton Borough Council shows that ; the receipts for tlie year amounted to £8330 lis. lid., and the expenditure to £7449 16s. lid. The wliole of the accounts are in a satisfactory condition. Owing to the liigh price of pipes, the Mastertmv Borough Council has decided that it cannot extend its gas mains at the present juncture. The new municipal buildings in Masterton have cost £11,257 19s. 6d., exclusive of furniture, architect's fees, etc. Tho i Wairarapa Friendly Societies' Council has handed to' the Patriotic Association a sum of £23,000, as a first instalment of the proceeds'of the recent carnival. The Masterton gasworks made a profit of £1290 19s. on last year's operations. Of this amount it is proposed to place £700 to the credit of the general account.
