HARRIERS

The 1916 harrier season was officially opened at Lyail Bay on Saturday by the Wellington Centre, A.A.A. •. Despite the weather' there was a good muster. The Brooklyn Club held pride of place in numbers, Olympic being the only*other club represented. ' At 3.30 Mr. F.' Hodson, oil.'.'behalf of the CentTe,. declared the season open,'and sent the pack on, their journey. F. Harlen (captain of the Brooklyn Club) was in charge, with J. Douglas (deputy-captain Brooklyn Club) as whipper-in. -.The course was along Ljjall Bay beach for a half mile, thence via the sandhills to the city boundary and back by road and paddocks to'-'Lyall Bay. The run-in, held over the last 300 yaids, resulted in a good win for O; A'. Willis (Brooklyn), J. Douglas (Brooklyn) being second, and E. A. Shaw (Olympic), third. ■
