SIR JOSEPH WARD IN THE SOUTH
By Tolcgratfh-Prcss Association.' \ , Christchurch,'April 17. '"Sir Joseph Ward: continued his recruiting campaign • to-night, addressing a crowded meeting in the Theatre Royal. The Mayor, Mr. H. Holland; presided. Sir Joseph Ward received a most cordial reception, and his speech was punctuated with frequent applause. He appealed to every person in the audience to induce eligible' men to enlist, not by abuse but by pointing out to them ivhat was their clear duty. .(Applause.) They were fighting for tho regeneration of the world, and the cry was coming from the trenches for recruits to make up the necessary wastages. Magnificent work had been done already, and nothing should prevent us irnm continuing to maintain the splendid record New Zealanders had achieved. (Applause.) When Sir Joseph Ward resumed liis seat he received prolonged applause. On the motion of the Mayor, Sir Joseph was accorded a hearty vote of thankß by acclamation, and the meeting closed with cheers for tho King, the men at the front, and Sir Joseph Ward. '
