Lord Charles Bentinck, who has been military secretary to General Godley, has gone Home,' and this work is now being done by Major J. Studholme, of the Canterbury Mounted Rifles. General Godley makes the following remark.upon the scheme for tho promotion of soldiers in the field to commissioned , rank:. -.' 'Your arrangement for the nomination of five. candidates for Imperial 'commissions and six for Reinforcement commissions is, from my point of view, working excellently, anil' will, I am sure, ensure a good supply of suitable meii in both cases, and will enable us to. dispose of many who havo good claims., - I think the numbers which you have allotted aro amply sufficient, and l am not in favour of their being increased. , General Godley writes,. also, on an-other-subject:—"About a month or so' ago I started the idea of having a hostel, or sort of Union Jack Club, for Australians and New Zealanders in Cairo, where.they could go and get a decpnt bed-and breakfast' when on leave. lam glad to say the idea has been taken up.
