NON-ARRIVAL OF THE ENDURANCE
LIEUT. STENHOUSE-S OPINION By Telegraoh—Press Association. > . Dunedjn, April 17. Lioutenant 'Stonhouse, of the Aurora, interviewed regarding tlie Shackleton oable message, said: "I received a wire from Home seven days ago stating, 'No news of Shackleton. at all; no news of arrival,' which meant there was no word of licr being in the Weddell Sea. So we do not actually know that, the Endurance party effected a lauding. Probably they did, Gut we have no word of it. I don't think it has been previously stated in print, but.when the war began Sir Ernest Shackleton went to the King and offered tlie services of all his party on botli ships for fighting. He also offered all the expedition stores; in fact, offered to abandon the expedition in the interests of . tlie Empire, bu.t the King declined Shackloton's offer, and commanded the expedition to proceed. My own personal opinion is ; that the Endurance has been stuck /up'in the heavy pack, and, in a disabled condition, is proceeding slowly to South Georgia. I think no fear about her safety need be entertained, till the middle of Mav." •
