HORSE-FARMING IN U.S.A.
■ 'The-United States are a rich field to> upon rtfor horses, as our Army .buyers sEave' demonstrated; arid '. the "figures 'show that tlie number .of'horees in;.that country at the begin•niiig of last-year was 21,195,000, this ;'b'eihg a slight increase as compared tvith.the total of the previous twelve :months.- There were ;also 4,479,000 mule's. It is curious; .to note that the ihules are worth more than the horses, 1 ~theTv v alu'e;.6f'.the former being 6et down roughly at a little over £23, and tho •latter at £22. In the, State of Michigan there are on farms about '625,000 uorses, -and it is anticipated that this number will' increase, as the breeders are progressive men. In former years horses have ; hardly figfured in the exports from this State, buteince the war there has been a run on them, and .many thousands-have been sent out of the country. Trices have gone up appreciably," and" breeders have made s! lot of money.'* -•■-•.'■
