The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey) leaves this morning for Feilding, where he will officially open, the new freezing works recently erected there. In his address he will probably toucli on the frozen meat industry and export trade generally. In. the evening ho will address a recruitI ihg meeting, and will return to Wellington early to-morrow morning. The Hon. Dr. R. M'Nab is at present on a recruiting campaign in the Can- . terbury district. He is expected to return.to Wellington to-morrow morning. The Hon. G. W. Russell returned from Hanmer Springs and Waimats yesterday morning: While at Hanmer, Mr. Russell inspected a new convalescent camp, now in course of erection, for returned soldiers, and at Waimate he was tendered a complimentary dinner. A private cable message has been re- • ceiyed in Christchurch stating that Colonel R. Heaton Rhodes arrived at Fremantle on Thursday, and that he is well after his recent attack of'illness. The funeral oE the late Mr. John Wood took place yesterday afternoon, with military honours, and was very largely attended. The cortege left the deceased's late residence, Petone Avenue, for the Taita- Cemetery. An escort consisting of 40 members of the No. 5 Company, Garrison Artillery, under Lieut. Findlay, preceded the guncarriage bearing the coffin, which was enveloped with the Union Jack and covered with wreaths. The Dead March in "Saul" was played by the Petone . Municipal Band, and after the chief mourners there followed representatives of No. 9 Company, Fort Kelburn, the Petone and Hutt Fire Brigades, Gear Company and Government Workshops,, the Oddfellows and , Loyal Orange Lodges, the Petone Ex-NavaW Association, the local Working Men's Club, and a large number of friends. At the graveside the Rev. G. B. Stephenson, chaplain to the No. 5 Company, conducted the burial service, Bro. H. Fleet officiating on behalf of the Oddfellows, and Bros. Hearn, J.P.M., and Thompson, P.M., for the Orange Lodge. The firing party, under the direction of Lieut. Findlay, paid their last tribute over the grave, and the bugle sounded! the "Last" Post." Mr. S. 0. Mahon has been appointed to represent the Auckland telegraph staff, and Mr. H. M. Patrick the Auckland postal staff at the annual conforenco of the Post'and Telegraph Association to bo opened in Wellington on
